Frequently Asked Questions

What is therapy like?

Therapy is like a conversation with a trusted person. You should expect a judgement free space in which you can honestly and completely discuss all that is going on in life that is troubling to you. It is here that we can, together, discover patterns and thoughts that perhaps need to be looked at or adjusted in order to reduce negative feelings. It is here that you can lay down your burdens and know that they will be honored and respected.

Can therapy help me?

The easy answer is yes! Therapy can help in all circumstances where there is a desire for change and a willingness to look at our own behaviors and responses to others.

What will we discuss in therapy?

We can discuss whatever needs to be discussed. There is nothing off limits in the therapy room. Your story is not too big to be told and honored.

How long will therapy take?

Therapy is an individual journey. If you want to work on one specific item, your time with me might only be a few sessions. For others, they might have a more complicated and complex story and it could take longer. Either way, you are always in control of your own therapy.

I feel like I have my problems under control. Do I really need therapy?

Having your problems under control is not living in freedom. The illusion of control zaps your energy and doesn't allow you to relax and feel the fullness of life. Living in freedom means that you can experience all the beauty and goodness that life has to offer you.

Why do people go to therapy?

People go to therapy because they are ready to live differently. Because they are ready to do the work that is needed to get to the place where they have freedom from what has held them in bondage.

Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?

Yes, your story is sacred and your time in the counseling room is protected. There are a couple of instances where confidentiality has to be broken, by law, to protect someone who is in danger or by court order. If you have specific questions, we can discuss them during your free phone consultation.

Will you think I'm “crazy”?

No, I will think you are human! On any given day we can all seem a little crazy. Our time together will allow us to uncover what is causing you to act in a way that is causing you pain and distress. I believe we are all more than just a set of symptoms leading to a diagnosis.
